Average Player Age Continues to Drop 

APP recently released updated research on player participation and demographics. The average is is now at 34.8 years. Also noteworthy is that 48.3 million adult Americans – nearly 19% of the total adult population – have played pickleball at least once in the past 12 months. 



Lingo

  • Pedicure: hitting your opponent’s foot

  • Manicure: hitting your opponent’s hand
  • Saloon doors: hit the ball down the middle between your opponents and they both swing and miss
  • Deuces wild or Twosies: when serving at 2, 2, 2
  • Out of the pickle jar: when you score your first point
  • Spread and thread: hitting the ball between your opponents open legs.
  • The Golden Pickle: getting pickled with only the beginning server ever serving
  • Stinky dink: when their ball hits the tape and dribbles over

Safety 

There was a cardiac event recently at one of the courts.  Carla Schauer has added first aid kits to the club boxes at Memorial, Cherry Hill, and Northshire.  The kits include aspirin. It's a good idea to know the combos to the boxes even if you don't regularly use them.  Codes are on the members only page at: https://inwpc.com/Members-only-content/

Memorial Day Social

Great turnout for the successful social.  Big thanks to all the volunteers and organizers.  Our largest social yet with 145 RSVPs.


Coaching Corner

Taking the advice from martial arts, there is an acronym that is used: ASP.  It stands for accuracy, speed, power.  They are prioritized in that order.  Hitting more accurate and precise shots will trump power. 

As you gain consistency and accuracy, only then start to ramp up the power.
